Frequently Asked Questions

What Is The SPC Foundation For Ministry, Inc.?

The SPC Foundation for Ministry is a ministry of Southminster Presbyterian Church. Its purpose is to bring Christ and His love to our local and global communities by supporting selected charitable ministries consistent with the principles of Christian stewardship. To accomplish this, the Foundation manages and grows an endowment to which funds are donated and then invested to create a perpetual source of financial support for the Foundation’s mission. The Foundation’s endowment assets are invested under professional management and overseen by an investment committee of the Foundation’s Board.

Why Give To The Foundation?
How Are Foundation Gifts Different from Those Given to Southminster?

The decision to contribute to the Foundation is a spiritual commitment of loyalty and love. It is a way to continue giving and supporting our church now and long into the future. Southminster’s annual tithes and offerings are used every year to fund the operations and ministries for that year, while the Foundation’s permanent endowment can provide funding for programs for generations. Gifts to the Foundation can last forever as a legacy of an individual’s commitment to the church. Some have described giving to the church as the sum of four parts:support for the annual budget; support for capital spending for major church expenses/projects; contributions to Gifts and Memorials in honor or memory of someone; and endowment gifts tothe Foundation as estate and/or legacy giving.

Through the Foundation, we can leave part of our treasure, knowing that it will be used to continue to spread God’s love and grace well after we are gone.

What Was The Foundation Impact In 2016?

The Foundation distributed $24,500 to 8 grant recipients in 2016, with four going to local benevolences, two to regional recipients and two to international causes.  Through the continued support and generosity of our members, we are hopeful of increasing the funds substantially over the coming years. YOU can help the church expand its ministries and mission!

How Can I Give To The Foundation?

There are many ways to support the Foundation. Contributions may be given in memory of a loved one or in honor of persons or special occasions, such as weddings or anniversaries. Some choose to include bequests to the Foundation in their wills. Other planned giving options include annuities, charitable trusts, and life insurance policies. Gifts of any amount are welcomed and appreciated by the Foundation. All gifts will impact our mission to bring Christ and His love to our local and global communities, and will be recognized on All Saints Sunday. All gifts to the Foundation are tax deductible, as allowed by law. Please consult with your tax or financial adviser.
